The Statistical Branch of the Imports and Exports Department reports that the total value of mer- chandise imported into the Colony in the month of August amounted to $49.5 millions (£3.3 millions) as compared with $60.9 millions (£2.0 millions) in August of last year, while exports totalled $40.1 millions 1996 (£2.6 millions) as compared with
44.1 millions (£2.1 millions).
For the first eight months of the year imports totalled 8429.6 wil. lions (£23.2 millions) compared with $4850 millions (£330 millions in the corresponding period of last year, and exporta $3149 milliona (£20.7 millions),as compared with 8358.4 millions (£17.4 millions)
