In this respect, the Y.31.C.A. at Kowloon is cuption. A fair indication of this institution's popularity among the younger men of the Colony is shown by the fact that it has a member ship of just on 800, and further, that all residential accomodation | 1053 degrees as measured by the without any conditions or safe- provided by three complete floors of bedrooms is in constant use.

The Swimming Pool." Included in this wing ground floor is the well-known y swimming pool, in which, during

the past few months three success ful swimming gales have been held. The actual dimensions of the pool are 75. feet long, by 25 feet wide with a maximum depth of 8 to 9 fect, and when filled it, has a capac- ity of 64,000 gallons of crystal clear, chemically treated water, which is changed regularly.

In cleaning the bottom of the pool a ginut vacuum cleaner is used. This device sucks any sedimentary matter from off the bottom whilst the bath is still full of water. In winter months the water is warmed to a moderate temperature. At the deep end two spring boards are provided, and at the recent galas so:ne excellent exhibitions of diving were given by members of competing cluby. Aquatics are so popular with members that no less than five water-polo teams are put into the water. From the best of these teams the Y.M.C.A. senior team is select ed.

Social Functions.

Hockey, tennis, basketball, and squash racquets claim the attention and enthusiasm of a large number of members, whilst periodically. social functions in the form of ten- dances, and whist drives are held in the spacious and tastefully ap pointed West Lounge.

Of recent weeks, moonlight bath- ing trips have been successfully un dertaken, these proving exceedingly popular. The billiard room is ways in demand, and when it is a quiet corner and a good book that is most desired the library offers theso facilitica.

Not the least popular among the services offered members of the "Y", is the Sunday Evening Quiet Hour Well informed spenkors make this function a very pleasant one.

The "Y's" Attraction.

But what is it about the Y.M.C.A. that makes of it the haunt of soldier, anilor and citizen alike? Is it merely the circumstance of material advantage to be so gained 1

I think there is more to it than just that. It is the genuine wol- come that is accorded each new- comor, and the hoine-like, atmos phore which habitually prevails that prompts us, when arranging meeting place to involuntarily say, "Will meet you at the “Y”.

Then all at once Mother spoke, "Won't you miss Edwin?" she asked Mrs. Ely,

Then Mother smiled.
