They always look more expensive than the gay checks, spots and stripes which have been a little overdone. There are plenty of at- tractive and youthful blues, reds, yellows, and bright shades of pinks and purples to be picked up at the sales. It is easy to see that unless a real bargain, those of us

V décolletés come into the pic- ture, too, and usually conform to short front ones continued to pass over the shoulders and end by falling into a lower movement at the back. This idea takes single buttom fastenings at either side of a low waist line, or the method is dis played on short corselet depths fitted up from a moulded and cloverly graduated skirt width.

sort of slip-over coming in the form of a short-waisted tight-fitted bodice line, buttoning down the centre back a low V décolleté. As an extra item it is attractive in navy- blue linen above a plain white or pale pink linen gown, but only the two colours are defined in a ter sade waistbolt-which is either knotted to hang over one hip or the centre back of a skirt.

The latest news for scaside and country evening gowns comes from Schiaparelli, who has launched a linen version of her silken pinafore evening style based on the garden apron idea. It looks charming in a deep rose-pink linen, cleverly cut to hang over an underskirt, the apron effect hardly meeting at the back and fastened together by narrow ties extended from the main lind
