OF VIEW From THURSDAY, the 28rn JULT, 1992,
to life imprisonment. He appeal-4 Cottage Pianos ed and the sentence was reduced to 1 Milner's Safe 20 years imprisonment. Being still not satisfied with the
gaol term, Koo appealed against the sentence again. He dated in the court that he had never supplied the gang with firearms. As a mat ter of fact, he emphasised, the pistol was obtained by the other accused, Hsu Hong Nyi and Yang Yui Ching, from Hsu Ah Mei.
Questioned by the Judge, Hsu Al-) Mei stated that he had never known, the accused. Yang Yui Ching was formerly employed in the metre reading department of the French Tramway, Electricity and Water- works Co. and acted as a secretary to the workers union. Their re Jation being mere friendship, Hau denied that the question of supplying a pistol to Yang had been discussed. He further stated thas he was a worker and bad never owned a pistol.......
Before he left the witness stand, Hau drow the attension of the Judge- that he was ill, and petitioned that he be allowed to return to the French Concession gaol where he was being accorded with medical treatment. The request was "gront- cd.
Yang Yui Ching told the Court that the borrowing of a pistol had been discussed with Hsu Hung Nyi, but Hau wanted the weapon only for the purpose of protecting the transportation of a quantity of optam. On the objection of, his mother, he dropped the question altogether, and, therefore, ho had not obtained any pistol from any body.
