General Prospects:
Time does not permit me to publish here a lengthy summary of the doings of the various players this year, though I hope to have a few notca on Monday next for the benefit of those who are interested in the inner detalls of 'Varsity
cricket and especially in the doings of the Alumni of their old schools.
Suffice it to say that at the begin- ning of the term, the odds were probably slightly on Oxford. The results of their matches during term-time rather confirmed that viow, but, after the tours of the two teams had started, it soon be- came apparent that both sides were tremendously strong with the bat.
It wa almost equally apparent that the bowling was pretty poor. Oxford had two Freshers-A. R. Legard of Winchester and Trinity (fastish) and E A. Barlow of Shrewsbury and B.N.C. (slow-spin) to bowl, R. S. G. Scott (Win- chester). an old Blue probably got in, as another fastish bowler, and the rest seems to have, been small change sare of course for Owen Smith, the South African, whỏ hád great part in Oxfort's victory last year. Cambridgę had a couple of | fairly fast bowlers in K. Farnes and 1. C. Rought-Rought. The former

The Second Day. Evidently the wicket remained good and Hazlerigg with his weak bowling went on with the innings. His one hope was a victory by an innings or by nine or ten wickets And so the last wickets put on 75 runs and Ratcliffe scored yet an other hundred at Lords. He had played just as he did last year up

Now we know that Ratcliffe and. Hone scored 124 those runs from their own bats. The Third Day,
On the third day 335 runs were scored! (And this probably ex- plains the alleged collapse of Cam- bridge. Oxford collared the Light Blue bowling and made 388, of which only 201 were left for ten men and Extras. Hone's 107 saved them. In auch a score Färnes' 5 wickets for 98 show up well. The only other bowler-to-be-mentioned was Legurd whose 4 for 40. was a Rood bit of work in face of the Cambridge total: I Have omitted to state that Wilcox made 167 for Cambridge in the fat knock. Ho probably went in first wicket.
Cambridge's Second Knock...
One rather imagines that as a result-was-impossible..........--Cambridge. took the second innings somewhat light-heartedly. It is, of course, possible the Lord's wicket lived up to its bad reputation, at the end, of a third day, but, from the number of runs scored, that day I incline to the other view.
