Dr. Shag Hein Chu, the veteran Chinese diplomat. who is a' mein- her of the Nanking Committee for Foreign Affairs. arrived in this Colony from the North by the President Cleveland and proceeded to Canton by train, yesterday after- Ireon. In an interview with local Pressmen, he vehemently denoune- ed Nanking's timid policy" in dealing with Japan in regard to the Shanghai and Manchuria, questions.
He was of the opinion that China had no hope of getting the Shang hai and Manchuria questions hou ourably settled by ponceful means, unless she could show that she was capable of sustaining a long-drawn armed struggle against outside invasion.
In reply to a question put hy Pressmen, he said that he had done all he could to make the Nanking Government take a Arm stand against Japan and he sug gested a formal "declaration of war. Unfortunately his idea was reject ed by the majority of members "at. the Foreign Committee.
Finally he said that he would not return to Nanking unless the Nan king Government, refused to sigu any humiliating agreement with Japan in settlement of the Shang- hri Affair.

ROME, April 8, The Fascist Grand Council has decided to examine Italy's position.03 to 845 p.m. as regards the League of Nations at the next session of the Grand Council, in October..
This decision followed the adop tion of a resolution approving Signor Grandi's foreign policy, urging the cancellation of repara tions and war debts; the removal of trade restrictions; the revinton by the League of Nations of the clauses in Pence Treaties, which remain sources of anxiety; and the abandonmont of the too fre- quent international conferences, which raise the hopes of Nations
