HETMAN EQUALS RECORD FOR MILE AND QUARTER.

MESSRS. CHANG AND CHARLES RIDES TWO WINNERS EACH: FAVOURITES SHARE HONOURS WITH OUTSIDERS

#MESSRS, TUNG AND CORBETT SERIOUSLY İNJURED IN THE SIXTH RACE FOLLOWING ACCIDENT.

[BY " MORNING DEW."]

There was some very good sport ut Happy Valley on Satur day afternoon when the Jockey Club held their first Extra Meet- ing of the season.

"

Quits & number of Shangkai jockeys participated and thes aport, would have been perfost had, not a usty incident in the sixth rase remilted in two very popular jockeys being seriously Injured. Mr. T. Y. Tung, who had specially come down from Shaaghai to ride at the Annual Meeting and who prolonged his stay to take in the first extra race meeting, and Mr. Corbett, whose successes in steeplechase events in Fanling, are known to all Incegoers, were the jockeys involved Both were removed to the French Hospital and are progressing as well as might be expected..

Heiman won a race over a mile and a quarter in record time, Gold Koy, ridden by Mr. A. W. dưRoza finishing a good aveond.

Mr. Y. B., Chang and Mr.R. H. Charles each rode two winners on Saturday..

MR. PROULX WINS FINE RACE ON WOTIN.

RESULTS.

Race 1.

It will not be long before Mr.! Butler will get out of his novice class ad he is certainly a vory pro mising jockey and can handle a good mount as well as anybody. After winning the Arst race with Mr. Jacque's Whoopeel Whoopee, hu rode quite well in the Mr. C.C.C.'s Amoy novice event to sepure third place with Wembley Stag.

Mr. Charles' two wins on Boxing, Eva and Chivalrous were by no means "surprising a both ponies were tipped to win in Baturday's. Daily Press. He had a fairly com- fortable race with Boxing "Eve, leading all the way home, but 'Chivalrous' victory of a length and

half was not ng simple së it reada It is true that there was nothing to beat in that deld, but a sur prising return to form by Pepper mint caused some surprise. Mr. Noodt on Punch came along with

a terrific burst in the last quarter and had ho started a little sooner..

might have even won the race.

Before the Accident,

Mr. Y. & Chang, had a compara- tively easy task on both his winning mounts, Gallant Fox and Hetman winning practically as they liked in their respective races.

Mr. T. Y. Tung, price to his injury, rods Gold Bar to victory in the Tytnm "A" handicap, account-" ing for a fairly classy field of subs. Mr. Corbett also had a win, bring- ing in. Bowery Bay in the Novicen cvent.

Manna had a fairly easy ruce in the race for non-winning Aus tralians of 14 hands and under. The disappointment in this race was Anniverary Eve which failed to secure a place at all. The Rain- bow and Joaquim ran very well, to El scoond and third places and there is no doubt that more will be heard of these two, ponies later in the season

Mr. Proulx rode n' very well judged race on Wotin' to win the list race of the day. Westland Stag and Lucy Glitters were well. fancied and both, were placed. Wotin lod from the start to the. finish, Mr. Proulx judging his mount's onpabilities to a fiae point and never allowed it to get too far ahead or allow it to lag at any stage

The Accident.

'

The necident in the sixth race happened-just-after the start-and-in full" view of those in the meinbers' enecaure. While the majority of people were looking at the leaders, two ponits which brought up the rear, Somers: (Ma. Corbett) and Vim (Mr. Tung) were involved in, an necident Somerset was slightly in front at the time and suddenly bucked, throwing Mr. Corbett over- his head Vim ran right into Somerect and jockeys and ponies were all mixed up for the moment. When tho ponios righted them- selves, it was men that both Tung and Corbett were unable to move. Willing hands soon carried them to the jockeys roon, where Dr. An- derson and other medical man ren-. tered all possible assintance to them And, as exon as it was possible, bath man were removed to the French; Hospital. It is understood that Mr. Corbett fractured his left collar, bone and that Mr. Tung was badly. out up in his face and body. It.in. gratifying to learn that both ara progressing na well as might be ex- pected
