THE CLUB WIN.
CRUSHING DEFEAT FOR
THE NAVY.
The final match of the Triangular Tournament ended us tifla time on Saturday when the Club won by an innings and saven Timis. There was not very much good batting about and the bowling was perhaps unduly factored thereby. It was diffoult to realize that the Club howlers were the ones who had failed so badly against the Army.
was beautilul day on Friday last, if a little cold, when the Club won the toma and elected to bat. The Navy were playing several frosh mea in place of the Cornwalls who had gone up North.

A Captain's Innings. Owen Hughes had evidently sized. up the position and he went for the bowling from the start. In fact, he had it with auch euse that one felt the other batsmen must have flatter- edit unduly. At thirty-nine be lost Mitchell who tried to turn one from his legs and skied it. Ho socmed to have developed a trick of doing this, and would be well advised to give up trying to turn them! Arm- strong, however, came to the resue and held up his end, though rather scrawhily at first, and Owen hughes piled on the fours merrily. Boul ing changes proved of no avail and it was not until Wroughton went on again that the partnership was broken, as. Owen Hughes was 1.b.w.. .to him. Armstrong did not at very much longer as he had the bad luck to play the ball on tu his foot whence it rolled on to the leg stump. He had given one very dif fcult chance at the wicket of Villiers. Owen Hughes had also been put down at long-leg, but apart from his the Navy helding had been pretty good. With six gone for a hundred and twenty-five things did not look too good, But Beck managed to get started and, thanks to the Navy bowlers feeding him with short 'uns he made 30, all on the leg side Bowker and Me- Clellan had helped with useful small scores and tho Club finally reached the total of a hundred and ninety- five. It was not a tremendous score, but the wicket, especially at the Law Courts end had showed signs of wear.

A Batting Failure.
nn
Shaw and Skyrme opened to Bowker and Owen. Hughes, and at eight, the left-hander swung one in a bit that came back later ond Skyrme was bowled. Bowker bowl- ed Whinney's off stump Inter, and then the procession began us no one could stay with Shaw. Muc- Furlan showed
excellently straight bat and should make a fine- cricketer if he can get enough prác. tice and some good coaching. Owen Hughes was bowling better, I think, than he has ever Jone and carried on, keeping an excellent length Beck relieved Bowker and at 42 he raced down the pitch and just held a return from Shaw who had mis- timed one that got up a bit sharply. Bailop showed good style and hung on for some time with Burnett bul he played on on, to his wicket, and in the same over Owen Hughes had Bowley caught in the slips, and Wainwright caught at cover. But for a sitter being put down at mid- off he would have had four wickets in the over and 8 for 30. As it was he took 7 for 34, a very fine per- formance.
That Fatal Hali-Hour. There was about half an hour to go and Burnett and Shaw, whose hand was badly bruised, went in, moot immediate disaster 28. Beck's firat ball brushed Shaw's

SUNSHINE DRAWS RECORD CROWD.
MISS P. SCOTT HARSTON WINS LADIES' EVENT,'
[BY MORNING DEW.""*7
The two-days programme arranged by the Fanling Hunt and Race Club "proved to be an entite auccess and favoured "with glorious, sunshine, the meeting attracted, vory big crowds on both days.
"Train accommodation was taxed to the utmost, and the attend ance at the ceurso cu Sunday must have been a record. The par- mutual and cash swropa, were well patronised and the fields were "big in most races.
The most interesting race on the programme was the ladies race hold yesterday afternoon. The event drow eight starters and win- ning honours-foll to Miss P, Scott Harsten who brought home Afrionn Eve. It wow, very interesting roob and Misa Scott. Harston won by sheer good riding. Taking hor mount cut in front at the start, she kept about two lengths in front of The Gomer and Donnabella with the rest of the field several lengths- behind. The lender lost ground on entering the straight and Don anbella past her nonr the distance post, but in the last furlong Miss Scott Haraton get a little mens out of her mount than Miss. Fearon on Donnabella and won by half a length. The Gomeril was third, five lengths behind Donnabella. Mira Frost rede The Comoril. -
· NEW SUBS. PROVE SATISFACTORY.
Mr. W. T. Stanton rode six win! fers during the meeting, three on ench day. He is certainly one of the most dependable steeplechase jockeys and having entered some good penies for the meeting. it was not surprising to new him carry off practically all the important
races:

The new subscription griffins of the Fanling Hunt Club were bried cut at the meeting. Over 'There won both the races for this class and proved himself easily the best suh. Catex was third on the first day and second yesterday. Loch Ryan and Harga each ran into Mr. J. C. Church's Bronze Eyes place and it seems as if this hatch of subscription griffins are going to, provide the elub with some interest ing sport. Looking over the romlig, one is forced to the conclusion that Although Over Thorn won twice in two outings, he is not an outstand ingly gand animal and it is quite within the cards that this pony will he rate at the nest outing--99 sibly by Cutex.
