Hughes played frect cricket, fair share of the bowling thanks especially at the start, and the to Musson's predilection for singles to extra cover, but the Gunner now "Club were unlucky to lose him just started to lay about him while before lunch time. Musson after a Moir, the in-coming batsman, play- weak opening over had boyled foured a very restrained game when he maidene in succession and got did get a ball. Owen Hughes, to play back to a leg turner and Williams made a nice catch in the slips. Thus at ́ tilfin the Club had scored eighty-seven for four wickets in about ninety minutes. Owen Hughes included sight fours in his thirty-seven.
After Tifla Mitchell played out the remains of Musson's over and then another tragedy happened. Sayer had play ed a very steady knock before but he apparently tried to cut Williams first ball after tiffin which was &. Innt and very long long hop which got up steeply: A slip catch wan the inevitable result. McClellan started shakily though he played one particularly pretty shot to long leg of Musson, but he soon lost Mitchell who tried to drive the same bowler and was easily taken at deopish mid-off by Moir. '97-8-2 Beck was dropped at second slip off his first bull, though Wales very neurly brought off what would have beon a splendid catch. Williams n this time was bowling very fant rearing up rather high from the short ones, and cutting through. when he pitched up. # yorked McClellan'n log stick with no fur- thor Increase in the score.

Reflections.
nine
I entirely agree with the opinion, expressed by someone after the match, that there were two crucial points in the game; the first when Owen Hughes was caught. the last over before lunch and the second when Hamilton was dropped at extra cover off his second ball Had either of those two occurrences eventuated differently there would have been an enormous difference to the game. All the same. I definite by consider the Army & botter aide than the Club. They have thorough ly umful tatemon from No. 1 to Ng.
Aided by a little luck Beck Bowker and Roid made the Club acore look a little less miserable, Bowkor sent the hundred up with a two to long leg that was danger. Qualy near fine leg, and of the next two from Musson, had a four to long leg, and a nick through the slips to the boundary, At 111, how ever, he had a go at Williams and was caught off the edge of the bat at. drst slip. It would probably have paid the Army to put on Mire house for Musson hero but Moir mado no change and Reid, the new- comersquare cut him very nicely and drove the next boll full toss to the screen. Then, however, Wil- liams look charge and bowled Beck, who had just hit a good four, with a ball which took the top of the middle stump 130-0-8. The end at least and their bowling wde came almost at once is, after quite adequate. I was sorry for Diyett had scored a single, Wit | Whitley as in his first representa Hams bowled Reid off his pads, and tive game he had to bowl, on n the Club were all cut for a hundred wicket that obviously did not auit and thirty-oan.
