We were, surry to have to rule out 4 good many of these because of the difficulties the writers had had i expressing themselves in Eng lah as many of those that were the least literate showed a very in ligent appreciation of the adver tisements chosen. In order to give our Chinese veutlers'a fairer chanes we will accept letters written in Chinese, which will be translated, for the benefit of the editor, by a member of our Chinese staff.

A dog lover has chosen a small advertisement that has appeared regularly for some months in the pago given up to classifed adver tisements. His latter though short makes its points clearly. Several readers, chose one or another of the interesting series of advertisement which the Hong Kong and Shang hai Hotels have been publishing of Jate, but none of the letters wors up to standard. - Dodwell's adver tisement for Black and White Whisky got the largest number of votes, and once again many renders chose the notice on the front page. a holly wreath in which is inaet the number of days to Christinas, which is not strictly speaking an adver- tisement. all, though we naturally pleased to find that an any of our renders have found it a useful reminder.
