OVER 2,000,000 TONS IN BRITISH PORTS.

Within the last twelve months the tonnage of idle shipping in the ports of Great Britain and Ireland has more than, doubled. Statistica just issued by the Chamber of Shipping of the United Kingdom show that the British tonnage laid up in British ports on Oct. 1 last amounted to 773 vessels of 2,082,575 net tons, representing, over 3 mil. lion gross tons, or about 5 million deadweight, tons. On Oct. 1, 1030, the totals were 417 ships of 987,130 net tons
