BRILLIANT GATHERING HONOURS
THE IMMORTAL MEMORY.......
The Rose Room and the Roof Garden of the Peninsula Hotel prosented'a brilliant and animated setne last night when no fewer than 1,100 persons attended St. Andrew's Ball.
The usual long list of greetings, from "Brither Beota" in all parts of the world were posted on the notice boned and were rend with interest by most of the guests. The Hong Kong St. Andrew's Society sent out twenty-nine telegrams to similar societies in other eities, the Hong Kong telegram reading "Whä's like us-Stoven- son, Chieftain."
His Excellency, Sir William Peel and Lady. Peel were the guests of honour and were formally received by the Chieftain (Mr. A. Stevenson) outside the Ball Boom.
In the course of his speech, the Chieftam said that this yene they were celebrating the Society's Jubilee, the Society having been formed as far back as the year 1681. During the whole of the Gifty year's of its existence, members of the Society had an- natally celebrated St. Andrew's Day,
