It will be recalled that the hostel was closed down as a result of an
alleged "assnule" on & 4th year! medical student, a Chinese, who was said to have been gagged, tied up by several persons and left in a coal bale near the kitchen. He sustained injuries which were certi. fed to be very serious, The Vice-1 Chancellor (Sir W. Hornell) unde investigations, but received no sup- port from the members of the hostel. Thereupon, the matter was discussed at a meeting of the Senate, and it was unanimously decided to close down the hostel for a term,
