RUGBY, October 20. org In criticising the election results the News Chronicle says: People were exasperated at the spectacle of the Labour Party being driven at the dictates of the Trade Union Council to advocate, measures that many of them knew to be impracticable.
The Labour journal, the Daily Herald, says: Labour has had what the Duke of Wellington called a damned good hiding" and if it is to turn the present, defent into future victory it has to learn its lessons and begin at once to rescue this disaster. When its next chance comes Labour must be ready not merely to win power but a body for the task that follows.
The Herald also points out that, although the party has under sixty seats, it polled 8,000,000 votes and anys it is not good that such a large body of opinion should be so under-represented in. Parliament.
The Daily Mail describes the election as a grent partiotic vote for Britaro, and says, that this repudiation of class war by the whole nation has in it something which stirs the blood and moves the heart,
The Morning Post says: It is no party verdict but, is national in scope and intention. It grants handsomely to the Prime Minister's request for a free hand and agrees to accept such fiscal measures as Government may find necessary to improve industry and agriculture and redress trade balance.
