A fine knock by Crewe Read (65) enabled the soldiers to put up the respectable total of 184 for when they took first innings. He was ably supported by Capt. Wales who made 30.

The undergraduates started nono too well, and but for a good innings for 34 by H. Normanbhoy, they would have been in a sorry plight.. As it was, their Inst wicket fell when the score, board showed 130
