A FREE HAND FOR THE PREMIER?
(REUTER AND BRITISH WIRELESS.1"
LONDON October 0.
In the House of Commons Mr. Ramsay MacDonald announced. that Parliament will be prorogued on October 7, and that H.M. the King had consented to its dissolution, a
The date of dissolution, however, would depend on how they could get business. through. He hoped it would be October 7, if so Polling Day would be October 27,
The Prime Minister visited H.M the King at Buckingham Palace at 9.15 am, in order to tender advice for the dissolution of Parliament,
The Government's decision to hold an immediate election has intensely relieved, the public, which generally agreed that an election was necessary and was anxious and dismayed over the protracted indecision of the Cabinet, which was causing the enthusiasm of supporters to evaporato daily.
Considerable speculation has been aroused over the wording of the manifesto which, it is believed, will be of the brondest terms demanding the electoraten for the authorisation of any measure to which the Government may think. necessary in order to buttress British currency and to restore the trade balance, but it is not known whether tariffs will be specifically mentioned.
What arrangements will he made for Conservatives and Liberals not to contest the same sents has not yet been an- nounced, but the Liberals, so far, apppear to have achieved n seemingly impossible task in avoiding, or, deferring a party split. In view of the unanimity of the Cabinet it seems certain that Conservatives and Liberals both to some extent. have.com- promised their fiscal beliefs.
The Liberal decision, which was taken despite Mr. Lloyd George's irreconciliabio nititude towards tariffs, was probably influenced by the resolution passed by twenty-two Libernis headed by Sir John Simon last night, pledging their unconditional support of the Premier. "
LONDON, October 5,
The Cabinet has unanimously agreed in favour of an immedi ate election on the basis of a manifesto to be issued by the Premier,
It is understood that the manifesto gives the Premier a free hand.
