RAIN INTERFERES WITH PLAY: WEEK-END PROGRAMME CURTAILED,

YORKSHIRE REGISTERS FOURTEENTH OUTRIGHT WIN

FINE VICTORY FOR NEW ZEALANDERS.

(TanovaK" REUTER'S AGENdr.]

London, August 11. Rain seriously interfered, with the wook-end cricket programme 'at home and in, the majority of the matches there was no play for two days while at Manoboster the weather was so bad, that there was no play at all. As a result of this, cricket was dull and the matches attracted but a handful of spectators. Yorkshire and Northants came to an agreement to declare at 4 in the first innings, and, thanks to this, the former were able "to forco an outright win. Warwick and Leicester also adopted the same tactics but were unable to come to a decision, the match ending with the teams getting four points each.

The Indian Recreation Club made the trip to the United Services Recreation Club yesterday and although rain interfered with the game, they won all six sets that were played to give them the points for the match and with it the Mixed Doubles' Cham-- pionship for 1931 - the second year in succession. The Indians completed their fixtures without a defeat and are to be congratu Inted on their fine record.

MIXED DOUBLES.

U.S.2.0. v. LE.C..

Buch interest was centred in this match which took place at King'a Park and in some quarter it was monsidered probable that the United Services Recrontion Club might be able to surprise their guesta.

The Indinos, however, started with plenty of confidence and with their lady players giving the men vory admirable support, they took enough sets to cinim the points he- foro Jupiter Pluvius intervened.

FULL LIST OF LEAGUE ENTRIES.

At a meeting of the League Management Committee last even- ingarrangements wore made for the coming League season,

WA Entries, as under, were accepted: Division I-Royal Navy, Kow. loon, H.K. Club, St. Joseph's, South China, H.K, Police, Chinese Ath. Assn., Club de Recreio, A. & S. Highlanders, Eastern, and S.W. Borderers."

Division II,-Royal Navy, Bow. loon, H.K. Chub, South China, Chinese Ath. Assn., Daiversity, R.A.O.C., 18th Bity. R.A.. A. & S. Highlanders, S.W. Borderers, Ewo, and Toung Tsin.

The second interport trial, which was held on Saturday last, provid- ed some very thrilling sport, but the results proyed very much as expected and nothing new was re- veiled, except perhaps one thing, and that was the poor water polo that can be put up by a side which has nover played together as a torm before. In this connection, it would perhaps not be out of place to suggest that the com- mittee responsible for the selection of the team to go North should select their water polo" team ab as carly a date as possible, so that the side chosen should be given 4th Assn., R.E., Recreio, and some opportunity of playing to-SW. Before dealing with the various out, it seems necessary to point once again that the programme did not allow competitors to do justice to the events. my opinion too many sprint events were crammed into a programme lasting two hours. The 100 yards breast stroko and the 100 yards backstroke were featured with the 300 yards free style. In the back- stroke, Leung Sui" Man, who had other engagements ahead, did not atart and this only left two com- petitors in the race, which hardly be described as an inter port trial, seeing that Hong Kong will have to have two representa tives in the breast stroke when the ra comes off in Shanghai,

CAN

In connection with the backstroke race, L. Roza Pereira did well to win the event from S. H. Wong, but it was obvious that Wong was. far from fit and one can only hope that he will put aufficient, prac- tice between now and the time the team sails so that Hong Kong can have two very strong contenders 2 for backstroke honours. At his best, Wong is a very excellent back stroke.. swimmer and it would not surprise me if Wong ahould even- tually win this event in Shanghai, Roza Pereira is a dependable swim- mer-always in the top of condition and there is no fear but that he will be at his best when the inter- port comes round.

It was unfortunate that there was a mis- understanding in the 100 yards racó which went to Lawrence, but the way in which Gittins finished show- cd that he would have given Law renca a very excellent race had he not raced 50 yards a few minutes before.
