the moving spirit, which resulted in the formation of the Land Invest- ment Company with a capital of $2,500,000. That was in 1680, At the end of that year the property owned by the Company was a8308- sed in their books as $800,000.

To-day the issued capital of the Land Investiment Company in $7,600,000 and their property' throughout the Colony is roughly valued at $17,000,000, 1000000

When the reclamation in the city was ohrried out some twenty five 20819:#80, thanks to the foresight of the late Sir Paul Chater the Land Investment Company was able to make what proved to be valuable, aquinitions of @land. Arein, that' now command (6109-a, kquare foot was at that time purchased by the Company st 89,17 per square foot.

Among the buildings owned by, the Land Investment Company, which stand on the city reclama tion are Prince's Building, Queen's Building, King's Building, York' Building, Alexandra Building, and Hotel Cecil

The Land Investment Company also figures prominently in the re- cent Wanchai Reclamation, of I which the late Sir Paul Chater whe also the moving spirit. The Com pany owns a considerable portion of the finished reclamation.

THE CEMENT

It was in 1023 that the Company first acquired Queen'a Building and. other valuable properties in the city, both in Queen's Road Central and Des Voeux Road Central In 1927 they added Prince's Buildinge to the considerable" ownership, but by far the most ambitions project: waa launched in 1928 when the Company acquired the Hong Kong Hotel to at the corner of Pedder. Street and Des Voeux Road, Thoy. have put up one of the most mag nificent buildings in the Colony on the site which is undoubtedly the very heart of the city:

The general construction was made to allow for simple assembly, with the result, that these fittings were installed without the slightest difficulty.

Despite the extent of this installation, such care was exercised in construction that the necessity of sending out an expert from the Works did not arise, and the assembly and installation proved a simple matter for the Contractor.
