CHINESE ATHLETIC BEAT ROYAL NAVY.

EIGHT-GOAL VICTORY,

The Chinese Athletic water polo team defeated the Royal Navy by eight goals to nil in the sonfor gamo at the V.R.C. yesterday. In point of spoed the Chinese wore "slightly superior, but the Navy

would not have lost by such A large margin if they had changed their method of defence. The Navy defenders. were content to swim alongside and mark three of the attackers, leaving the track eldar for a idurth man to swim in and score as he pleased.

The National Guard is a State organization under the command of the Governor of each State. In many ways it is like Hong Kong's Volunteers. It is called out in cases of local emergencies and is used to quell disturbances. Tho training of the volunteers is the same as in the army, and the various: branches are on the same lines as

the regular army. The men train in their spare time, and are required to

go into camp for fifteen days each year for field training. As in the army, the enlistment period is for three years.
