“RENEGADES.”
FINE PICTURE AT THE
KING'S.
"Renegades," now showing at the King's Theatre in an excellent entertainment,
It is, perhaps, melodrama, but it is melodrama with a consequent theme. The ending is the only solu tion to which the story would have en brought if it were, to have any resemblance to real life, though it is not the ending that one would have expected of Hollywood.
Renegades" very possibly owes something to that excellent series of exciting stories which 'have Mr." P. G. Wren's Renit Gesto" na their hero, but it is none the worse for tint, and while one's thoughts return almost inevitably to the film of Beau Geste in the ripening scenes, the story as it unfolds shows a power and originality which very quickly reassures one that this is no ralash but a food and interest- ing picture.
Warner Baxter, who has played such very varying les with con- spicious success, finde în “Denca- lion" the here a part which suits him well, while Machwarth" gives Nonh Beefy a much better op- portunity of Character study than many of the parts he has bad, Myrhn Loy was well chosen for the role of "Eleonore" spy, traitorera, and siren. When she first appears her oxotic lonk seems to overshadow her attractiveness and one fears that by the introduction of a well worn vamp theme a good full blood. cd adventure story is going to be spoilt. But one, is soon reassured! on that point.
