A few days ago, I was standing outside one of the Chinese hospitals in Caino Road when I saw a wenu coming out with a baby strappor to her back. Now this method of carrying a sick child is bad enough, but to make matters worse, the woman had a quilt thrown over the child, who was thus shut off from the fresh air it needed.
Rapid strides are being made by certain sections of the Chinese com- munity as far as hygiene is con cerned, but it is deplorable that many of them are still in absolute ignorance as regards the vital necea- sity of fresh air, not only for patients, but also for normal people.
One argument advanced by the Chiness of the older school is that fresh air or wind" as they call it, is fatal in certain diseases. How to show them that this is a very wrong view to hold is difficult but! it in to be hoped that institutions like the Tung Wal Hospial will so that people are instructed in
