Owing to the unfavourable wea- ther, the resumption of the fight had to be delayed. The trip to Shanghai is expected to take from eight to ten hours, and it is un- likely that the aviators, although bent on breaking the time record, will take any risks by a late start and in such weather.

"HIGH SOCIETY BLUES."

America's most popular pair of sweethearts, tivi beautiful kongs and a fast moving story loaded with romance_and_comedy, is the winning combination: revealed by "High Society Blues," Fox Movie tone musical romance, which open- ed at the Queen's Theatre last night.

Janet Gaynor and Charles Far- rell are the leads and they have again been dircoted by David But- ler, who piloted them so brilliant- ly in Sunny Side Up," when they made their musical comedy debut. "The song numbers are tuneful and catchy and are sung charming ly by Miss Gaynor and Farrell, Joeuph McCarthy and James F. Hanley contributed these lyric hits. The story, written by Dania Burnet, is a mixture of high fin anco and high society with a de. lightful romance running through

it.

Fine performances were given by the strong supporting cast which includes William Collier, Sr., Joyce Compton, Hodda Hopper, Louise Fazenda and Luciou 'Little- feld.

never

more

A girl can never tell three days with whom she is falling in love. Imagine Evelyn Brent's surprise when she discovers the true ident ity of the suave Englishman, Clive Brook, in "Slightly Sonriet." which opened last night at the Central- Theatro.

Evelyn Brent was alluringly attractive, more gorge- Qusly gowned than

Slightly Scarlet." Nor was the handsome Brook ever more charm- ingly whimsical, oven in "Charm. ing Sinners, than in this strange. melodrama of another charming sinner who looks for high ideals and high station in her men friends and falls in love with.....what? That's one of the big surprises in "Slightly Scarlet."

she iB 10

The story is set in a smart so- ciety with sumptuous scenes and delightful people. Yet it is aa tensely

dramatic as anything Brent and Brook have ever done- even as highly elimactic as "In- terforence," their former joint entertainmont,

"Blightly Scarlet" is entertain- meut de luxe-an all-talking de light, one of the gems of the sea- son's screen 'entertainments.

THE WEATHER BREAKS.

YESTERDAY'S DOWNFALL.

The dry season seems to have broken with the heavy. thunder- storm of Friday night, and yester day 69 inches of rain fell between. 12 a.m. and p.m. according to the Royal Observatory register. A showery morning developed into a soaking wet day, which stopped all games and reduced attendance both at places of worships and at the cinemas.

Up to Friday morning only 1.07 inches had fallen this year, against an average of 4.04 over the same period. The depressing drizzle and "Bootch" mist of the last six weeks has, therefore, been spread thin, from the meteorologist's point of view, though it has been sufficient to interfere with the H.K.C.C. tennis tournament as well as many private engagements.
