The explanation of this unusual bilingualism. is that Miss Colbert was born in France and lived there until she was in her early teens. Then the came to Amerien with her parents and attended schools there until abe, made her stage debut a few years ago, In the intervening years she mastered English without acquiring any sug- gestion of French accent.

Her complete mastery of the two languages provided her with the unusual opportunity of playing the leading feminine rôle opposite Che- valier in both the American and French all-talking versions of "The Big Pond," in which the big hap. piness man from Paris." is starring at the Central Theatre during the holidays and will be shown for the last time to-day.

It's fashionable

to be economical now!

It is fashionable now-a-days to treat your travel budget with the same care you give your household expenses. Which means, of course, you insist on cabin comfort, good decks, and whole- some food, but are willing to do without a menu that needs an interpreter or an orchestra of college professors. Comfort without ostentation!.

While broad faroe can seldom Tail in its general appeal to local nudiences, one would not like to think that their taste in plays was. confined solely do this class of

enter. tainment, and it is, therefore,.still inore pleasing to learn that a slight departure is being anade and that in Art and Mrs, "Bottle" the players will have scope for duraċ- fer study as well as for the display. of dramatic mowo. Both of these branches are ombrnood in the play in question; the whole being com bined with numerous situations and sparkling dailogut,

The play is the work of Benn W. Levy, from whose pen we have had "This Woman Business," Mud and Treacle" étc., etc., but who, until now, was perhaps best known for his dramatisations of Hugh Walphole A Man with Red Hair" and Marcel Pagnol's "Toppar."

In Art and Mrs. Bottle " the author has retained, and even „LIU». phasised, much of the forceful Brilliance displayed in the above. works and we have you a further xample of the amazing sense of humour with which he can treat domestic tragedy when calling a spado a spadé

The story is undoubtedly a tragic one, but under Me. Levy's magic wand it becomes the lightest of fight comedies and is well calculat ed to please the after-dinner mood:

Careful treatment is called for in the acting and in the eclection of the caste much stuly has been given to the known or potential ability of the players.

The first performam will be given at the Theatre Royal on Saturday, March 7, and the play will be repented on the nights of 0th, 13th and 14th, with the pro bability of a matinee on Wednes day, March 11. Booking will be at Anderson's
