The liberatto and the lyrics of Mr. Herbert are the most Brilliant known to the English stage since the days of W. S. Gilbert.

The music of Mr. Dunhill, in epite of occasional lapses into over- seriousness, is, on the whole, spark- ling and melodious. It improves markedly as the opera progrCASOS,

„FIVE SENIOR ENGLISH LEAGUE TEAMS BEATEN IN CUP MATCHES.

BLACKBURN ROVERS LOSE AT STAMFORD BRIDGE:

PORTSMOUTH BEATEN BY ONLY GOAL,"

KEEN SCOTTISH CUP RIVALRY.

Birmingham, Chelsea and Sunderland among the First Division League teams survived the Fifth Round of the English Cup matches on Saturday, while the other five ended their career. Chelson's vie

victime at Stamford Bridge were the Blackburn Boyers, heroes of the raamorable Cup final three senson's back Portsmouth, focent winners, were ousted by West Bromwich Albion. Everton accounted for Grimsby, while the Wolves conquered Barosley, their Second Division colleagues. Exeter, from the Third Division, did well in eliminating Leeds United. Southport qualified to remain in the struggle.

.✰

Dunder and Aberdeen, in the Scottish Cup matches, failed. to reach a decision. Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Celtic had fairly easy passages into the next round.

In the English League matches, Arsenal strengthened their position by a good win over Derby County. Wednesday, however, received an upset at home against Liverpool. Manchester United, wooden spoonists of the First Division, succeeded in, taking the points. Glasgow Rangers beat Clyde by eight clear goals.

Results of Cup and League matches with corrected lengue tables are appeadod.
