CENSUS.
APPEAL FOR PUBLIC CO-OPERATION.
“A NORMAL-ACT OF GOVERNMENT: NO ULTERIOR MOTIVE.”
The Superintendent of the forthcoming Census of the Colony has kindly forwarded us a sories of most, interesting articles on the Consus. The reasons for taking the Census are clearly explained, and also the uses to which the information is pat. It is, in fact, of the greatest help. to those responsible for the public services of the Colony.
The history of the "numbering of the people," in past and present ages' which is being supplied will, we think, prove very acceptable reading and help us to understand this action of the Government.
The Ceriaus Officer writes as follows It will have been observed that A Bill has recently been introduced in the Legislative Council of the Colony entitled "An Ordinance to make provision for taking from time to time Census of the Colony." New Regulations governing the tak ing of a Census will also shortly bo made and a Census Order will be promulgated by His Excellency Governor in Council directing Hong Kong shall be taken on the night of the 7th March, 1937.
