MOTOR NOTES.

MOTOR CYCLE SHOW AT OLYMPIA.

TWO RECORD BREAKERS ATTRACT MOST ATTENTION.

THE LURE OF THE GALLERY: COMPREHENSIVE ARRAY OF SPARES."

The exhibits staged at the Motor Cycle and Cycle Show, held at Olympla, London, in November, covered an extremely wide rango, Pedal cycles, utilily motor cycles, powerful racing machines, motor-cycle combinations, tradesmen's carriors and three-wheolors were all on view, while the amazing advance that has been effeat- ed in design was clearly demonstrated by an historic exhibit of some of the earliest examples of motor cycles.

In addition to those machines which stood out as being of ox- ceptional interest and there wore several that came under this hoading-wore two deserving of especial mention.

Both of these were record breakers, both records had only just 'been made, and both were British machines. The one, à motor

cycle, had just általoed a speed in Ireland of 150.73 m.p.h., thus, "beating the record previously hold by Germany by the handsome margin of 13 m.p.h.

The other, a three-wheeler, had recently covered a kilometra at Montlhery at a speed of 125.00 m.p.h, and thereby established it- self as the fastest three-wheeled vehicle in the world. This category includes, cf course, motor cycle. combinations as well as three. wheelers proper, and it seems only fitting that this rooord should be held by the Morgan people, the pioneer firm in this particular, branch of the motor industry.

SUNNING SYSTEM.

Auxiliary system to ruilways are the established thing in England and Ameries and literally thou sands of miles of feeders have been placed in operation, partly, to stimulato business and partly to offset the inroads of the motor bus freight services, which have been s factor in transportation for a nun- ber of years. Electrio and, motor feeders have been employed.

The Dodge truck has been em. ployed on a number of such lines. in America, their sturdiness, dur ability and economical · running being taken into consideration. En- thusiastic reports and repeat orders are proof of their popularity.

China, too, has taken a progres- sive step in this direction, South China in particular and the Hong Kong agents have supplied the motors and built certain bodies for U80 on the Bunning Railway. Although not faced with other motorized competition, the railway has found this, type of transporta- tion to their economic advantage.

Interesting Particulars.

Some particulars of this progres- sivo spirit are of interest specially tho uses to which the railcars have been put. The total length of the Sunning Railway is 90 miles. The railcar with a trailer is being operated between the city of Toi- shan and the city of Pakshab," the distance, of which is 22 miles. This

Other interesting features of the Aric are the use of an overhead camshaft to operate the valves,” n complete dry sump lubrication system, a very thoroughly enclosed driving chain running in oil and four-spoed gearbox. As for as. the frame, wheels and other parts aro concerned, normal practice is followed, but a very neat instru- ment panel is let into the top of the tank.
