EXCHANGE'S EFFECT ON
PIECE GOODS.
BUSINESS AT A STANDSTILL.

Cotton Place Goods. Exchange decline is naturally the predominating market topic, and until silver value atendies, there is little likelihood of enquiry for for- ward shipments of stupien or fan- cica.
What little local stock there is of simple and fancy descriptions ahou find ready sale.
Cotton value continue downward in trend-3.44. being the last quolation to hand for Mid Am. Apot" and 7,80d. for Eg. Sakel, Woollens.
The exchange situation continues to dominate the market, and new business in cotton and woollen piece Ronda is virtually at a standstill. Since last reporting, some orders have been settled in single wool yarns and there has been some en- quiry in cotton yarns.

Manchester prices have been easier but owing to the sharp de- dine in exchange, quotations on this į side have been advanced. The local market is quiet and prices have been easier on account of small de- тала. Clearances continue on a satisfactory scale and about 35 per cent of the winter cargo has now gone into consumption.

The RM.S. Empress of Asia arrived at Shanghai on Friday at 4 p.m., left on Saturday as 6.30 a.m., arrived at Nagasaki yater- day at 5 p.m. and leaves this morn ing at 5 am.
The R.M. S. Empress of Caanda arrived at Kolio on Saturday at 8.m., left the same day at 9 p.m., is due at Shanghai today at 10 a.m. and leaves to-morrow at 3 a.m.
The Empress of Japan arrived at Vancouver on December 12, will leave on Debember 20, is to be due at Hong Kong on January 8, 1931, and will leave for Manila on Janu- ary 10.
The R.M.S. Empress of Russia arrived at Honolulu on December 12 at 7 a.m., left the same day at 5 pm, ja due at Hong Kong on December 28, and leaves Hong Kong for Manila on December 30 at 6 ▒3.1.
