A substantial subady to opera was announced by Mr. Philip Snowden, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, at question-time in the House of Commone to-day.
The Chancellor foreshadowed a revised agrooment between the Postmaster General and the British Broadcasting Corporation, under which the Government would grant £5,000 in the prepont year, and £17,000 each year thereafter for five years, towards the presentation of opera in London and the Provincos. The necessary fands would be provided by the B.B.C. and by private subscription.
