There was a record gathering of lawn bowlers and others interest CC. ground yesterday to witness the semi-final meeting in the Open Singles Championship of the Colony botween R. F. Luz (last season's olampion) and U. M. Omar (cham- pion in 1928). A thrilling gama was provided by the Club de Re eroio player winning with his last

wood to enter the final.

Luz had a lead of 17-3 and it Looked as if he would gain the remaining

The Craigongower player pulled up to within three shots when Lut added three shots to bring his score to 90. Omar made the scores even by taking a four and

There was match excitement at this stage as one shot was ended by one or the other to win Lut got in the shot with his third wood, hut. Omar sent his last wood closer ju to the jack to count the shot. Luz cut out the wood with a bril--t liant stroke and at the same time carried the jack to count three ahots

LATE CHURCH GOERS

BARRED.

DRASTIC THREAT BY DR. FOSDICK,

Church-goers who come into may find themselves barred from the magnificent now Riverside Church, New York, built by Mr. John D. Rockefeller, Jur., for the Rev. Harry Emerson Fosdick, moder nist leader and the most eloquent preacher in America.

The church, which is larger than many European cathedrals, will be opened next month, and Dr. Fos dick states that its ministers are considering regulations against lato coming a stringent as the policies of the New York and Philadelphia orchestral conductors, Toscanini and Stokowski, who re- fuse late-comers admission before the symphony has finished.

the

"I do not want to preach to peo- ple who come straggling in just before the gormon," states Dr. Fos dick in a pastoral letter on the eubject. "Late-comers ruin whole spirit of the service. It might have a wholesome effect for our church to say that people who do not care enough for worship to come on time may not conse at all." Another habit of Protestant con-

gregations which Dr. Fosdick con- surca is going to church as they I now beg to propose that the go to a lecture." Warship, rather report and accounts (subject to thehan sermons, will be the leading oxplanation which I have given) feature of Riverside Church, and. be adopted.

people will bo urged to use it for prayer at any hour of the day or night, "Our characteristiu Pro- testant tradition," asserts this fam- ong preacher, "has relied too ex- clusively on talking. It has often reduced worship to a few exercises of devotion appended to mon."

Mrs. Sommerfelt was appointed as successor to Mrs, D. J. Lewis for the captainey, and the Committee elected were-Mesdames Gilmore, Evans, Dodwell Cassidy and Ste ofwart.

I greatly regret that because circumstanco beyond my control I have boen absent from the Colony for several months and I wish to express my grateful thanks to Mrs. Ferguson for carrying on so ably during my absence und also to the Committee who have BO thor- oughly supported her.

Votes of thanks to Mra Lewis, Mrs. Evans (Hom. Secretary) Mrs. Dodwell (Hon. Treasurer), the out- Koing Committee, Mr. A. C. I. Bowker. (Hon. Auditor), the Helona May Institute, Col. Matthews and the local Press concluded business of the meeting.
