My predecessor in the chair promised that the suggestion would receive the serious directors. consideration of the That promise was fulfilled at the first meeting of the board held thereafter on April 7 following, when your board was of opinion that no useful purpose would be served by adopting the suggestion at that time, but the matter would be reconsidered if and when the financial position of the company rendered desirable the adoption of the course suggested.

JUNKMEN'S QUARREL.
A HOSPITAL CASUALTY.
"At the Kowloon Magistracy yes- terday, two Chinese junkmen were charged before Mr. Whyte-Smith with assaulting two other men from another junk.
The fight arose when the defend- ants came alongside the complain- ants junk and placed a gangway between the two vessels. The com- plainanta objected to this and it was alleged that they pushed the plank overboard. They explained, how- ever, that the plank was causing obstruction to work being carried on in their junk and is an attempt. to shove the gangway aside, it ac cidentally fell into the water.
In the fight that ensued one of the men was struck on the head with a wooden pole, and had to be treated in hospital.
