TO-DAY.

THE TEACHINGS OF ZOROASTER.

To-day the Parsees celebrate their political New Year, the 1300th of the era of Yezdegard III, the last of the Zoroastrian monarchs of the Sassanian Dynasty, by a social gathering at Buxey Lodge, Conduit Road, the former resid-

eace of the late Sir Hormuaji N. Mody, Kt, the founder of Hong

Kong University.

The Parsees trace their descont to a people who flourished in Persia in pre-historic times, and are the remnant of a once mighty nation. The Aryas" ("the noble ones") are said in the "Avesta" to have had their original home in the fair land of Aryana Vaeja (the cradle lands of the Aryans) which had been the first among the lands" created by Mazda, Whore that an- cient motherland of the Aryans was, we cannot determine with cor-

Zoroaster,

Zoroaster, the ancient legislator of the Aryans of Central Asia, was also the undisputed Master of the „Magi, and the date assigned to him by Pliny, Aristotle and other clas-

sical writers, goes back to more than 6,000 years before our era.

He lived during the reign of the great King Gustaap of Bactria. The fundamental principle on which Zoroaster founded his re- ligion is righteousness, pure and simple. In the Gathay he promul- gates this simple doctrine by say ing "Righteousness is the only road to divinity, all other roads are of Do avail.

Zoroaster lays particular stress on the purity of thoughts, so thoughts are the mental pictures formed in the mental plane, and words and deeds proceed from thoughts. Desire is the seed of all thoughts, and he insists that all kuman desires should be positively and absolutely righteous, and in strict accordance and perfect har mony with the laws of Nature, as
