New York, July 3-This last day before a three-day holiday period was a light one on the New York Stock Exchange, according to the daily review of the Dow Jones Financial News Agency. Only 1,354,230 shaves changed hands.
Many traders were already absent on their holidays, while others were anxious to be out of the market before following suit with their own departures.
Losses Early in the Day. Prices generally were lower. Con- siderable losses were sustained early in the day. Some of these were re- covered id the final hour of trading, U.S. Steel receiving considerable support and leading others in the advance. Steel closed with a net loss of one point at 157. This last- minute rally was attributed to the reluctance of the bears to remain shurt over the ensuing holidays.
The average of 30 industrials showed a loss of 2.79 to 46. Eastman Kodak dropped 61 to 192. Goodyear Tire & Rubber was off two points to 57, and Goodrich one point to 23. Anaconda Copper was off only a quarter of a point to 30, while Kennecott Copper was up thi La 38. "General Motors gained five. eights to 40, most motor stocks' showing no marked departures.

Rails Fractionally Lower. Rails, shown by the average of 20 stocks, were down 52 Canadian Pacific gained 14 to 1873. while Northern Pacific lost to close at 72 Union Pacific was down two points to 207, and Southern Pacific dropped a quarter of a point to 114 Pennsylvania held its own, with a net rise of an eighth to 74.
American Tel. and Tel. was off 1 to close at 907. International Tel. and Tel. went down 1 to 43. Twenty utilities averaged a decline of 1.48 to 80.95. General Electric | was of 1 to 67, Standard Gas and Electric three points to 90, Colum- bia Gas and Electric 1 to 821.

The local branch of the National City Bank of New York has received a telegram from the head office stating that the balance- sheet issued on June 30, 1930, indicates that all existing records of the bank since its establishment in 1812 have been exceeded with the exception of the statement of December 31, 1929..

Capital, surplus and undivided profits U.S.8242,973,145 against U.S.$233,260,400 a year ago.
