The number of rent distress war- rants issued was 1,739, represent ing unpaid rents amounting to 2387,096,86, of which 853,551.78 was recovered by enforced sales in 651 warrants; 13 against 1,447, $281,853.11 and 858,930.39 respective- ly, in 1929, One thousand and twenty eight warrants were with drawn on settlement between the parties, as against 909 in 1928, and the remaining warrants were can celled or otherwise disposed of.
The fees collected amounted to $24,507.10; as against $22,577.20 in 1028.
Criminal Cases.

There were 93 cases and 140, per- sons committed for trial at the Criminal Sessions, as against 91 and 118, respectively, in 1925. the 140 persons indicted, 62 were convicted, 39 wore acquitted · and 15 were discharged (case abandon- ed). In 1928 the figures were, res pectively, 118, 73, 41, 3 and one person's trial postponed.
Four appeals were lodged during the year. Of the four, two wero dismissed and the remaining two are pending.
Thirteen actions (Admiralty Jurisdiction) were instituted Jur- ing the year. In five cases judg. ment was given for the plaintiff, in one case for the defendant, four were settled of withdrawn and the others are pending. The fees col- lected amounted to $600.50, да against $1,379.65 in 1928.
Three hundred and eight grants were made by the Court being probate, 120, letters of administra- tion 188. The figures in 1998 were, respectively, 104 and 144.
Court fees amounted to8. 21;531.50 and Official Administrator's Com- mission to $3.447,65. The figures in 1925 were $21,247.20 and $1,989.30, respectively.
During the year there were 212 Deceased Estates Accounts on the Court Books. The cash balance was 89,748.414
The number of Trust Estates, in the hands of the Oficial “Trustee at the end of the year was 23. The invested funds totalled 8107,345,00 and the cash balance $10,037.46 One, trust was wound up during the year and one new truta was opened. The amount of commission collected was 8247.50, as against $753.67 in 1928.
On December 31 there were 500 companies on the Hong Kong register, of which 58 were in course of liquidation. During the year 50 new companies were put on the Register and 37 struck off. "One company was transferred from the Shanghai to the Hong Kong re- gister and no company from the

The total sum collected during the year by way of fees and com mission amounted to $102,876.25,- as against $101,624,20 in the pre vious year.
It is possible that a further in- crease in the fares may be made in view of the higher price of petrol enased by the fall in ex- change and the new tax on petrol. Such increase could not, however, be effected until sanction of the Government has been obtained.
