From the start the Navy showed themselves a much improved team over their last year's form and soon proved this through Barrett, who scored within three minutes from the start.
The Somersets forwards maden determined attack and after some time all but succeeded in levelling the score with a hard shot within close range. Howard passed a foul throw to Meadows, who failed to score. Diplock, the Navy centre-half, got possession of the ball and took it up to the opposite goal and passed it to Symthe, who scored with a fine shot..
Howard now came up as centre- forward and passed the ball to Parkes when within" shooting range. The latter hit the bar and the ball; re-bounced into the hands of Sprout ing, who scored the first goal for the Army team. With Howard as centre-forward the Somerset team
was much improved, and they at tacked the Navy goal and finally scored through Howard with a penalty shot.
