SWIMMING NOTES. INTERPORT CRICKET WORLD'S BASEBALL

RAIN AGAIN STOPS PLAY.

SERVICES MATCH OFF,

(THROUGH REUTER'S AGENCY.]

[BY T. TEMBAROM]

The swimming season is now in full swing and the forthcoming V.R.C. night fetes and Water Polo League are due to commence next week. Many of the Colony's lead- ing swimmers are putting in daily practices at the V.R.C. bath and the prospects of a successful season sult there will be no play in the interport to-day. The chances are that there will not be any play to-morrow, and the United Services watch has been cancelled,

are rosier than ever,

Mr. J... Johnstone, our leading swimmer, is with us again this year, and it is hoped that he will continue to show his very good form and renew his attacks on the V.R.C. and Colony's swimming re- cords. Mr. Johnstone has done ever so much towards the revival of swimming interest in the Colony,

and his entry into the competitions has done a great deal towards en couraging the younger members who are endeavouring, with all serious aesa, to equal bis form and pit themselves against him in the races. This has the effect of greatly im proving the Colony's standard of swimming and, incidentally, our younger blood.

It is easy to visualise the scene. The English girl holding her own for the first few holes and then gradually snatching a hole here and there. The spectators' hopes of, at any rate, a hard match gradually crystallizing into hope of a victory as hole after hole was chalked up in Miss Fishwick's favour. The frenzied discussions at tiffin. as to whether, she would be able to hold on to her five hole lead of whether youth would 'eráck under the strain And the increased size of the crowds following the afternoon round as' the news of the morning's battle had spread Then the excitement as the English supporters watched, with bated breath, the result of the first few holes and the relief as victory became more and more as sured. Finally, the scene of deli rium when the last putt was sunk" apd one at least of the Champion ships was prevented from going overseas. NA
