Becoming a Habit.
A motorist was summoned at Feltham recently for a motoring offence, and wrote to the court apologising for his non-attendance as follows: I apologise for not. roming to court, but I have had so many of these summonses lately." French Import Duty,
In rents to an inquiry as to what added burden the increased proteć. tive duties under the new French: tariff would impose on British motor ears exported to France, Mr. Graham President of the Board of Trade, said the official explanation of the proposed changes was that, owing to the difficulties of estimat ing the value of motor cats and parts, the duty of 45 per cent, ad alore, at present laid down in the tariff had not, in fact, in all enses, been levied. In regard to both parts and romplete vehicles the new specific duries purported to be enleulated so as to be equivalent to n rent ad valorem duty of 45 per

Exhibition Tour of British Vehicles.
Thirty British cars recently left Wellington, New Zealand, to tour the dairy and sheep-rearing pro vinces of Wellington, Taranaki, and Hawke Bay, with the intention of showing the New Zealand public the modern British car in a favourable light. It is stated that falling prices of produce have made the farmers realise the folly of sending money to America, but at the same time British cars are too expensive compared with American" vehicles, and the power is insufficient." Des pite these facts, however, the sales of British cars are steadily increas ing, as witnessed, incidentally, by The adjoining paragraph. the British Manufacturers Association has assisted financially. From the densiveness of the clmost impenetrable jungles of Africa comes the following message:
I KNOW OF NO OTHER CARS THAT WOULD STAND UP UNDER SUCH SEVERE AND CRUEL SERVICE"
Martin Johnson, the world's premier big game photographer cables:
*COVERED 4,000 MILES ON 60 DAY SAFARI IN HEART OF AFRICA OVER IMPASSABLE TRAILS, ALL: SEVEN WILLYS-KNIGHT CARS AND WILLYS-KNIGHT TRUCKS IN PERFECT CONDITION. THEIR PERFORMANCE WAS WONDERFUL AND HAD NO TROUBLE.. I KNOW OF NO OTHER CARS THAT WOULD STAND UP UNDER SUCH SEVERE AND CRUEL PUNISHMENT*
Prior to his leaving the United States last November, Mr. Johnson said in planning such an expedition, care must be given in selecting the right motor car. They must stand a terrific strain and have great power and endurance. For this reason we have psed them on our previous trips and know from experi- ence how well they stand up.
That the Willys-Knight cars and trucks used by the Johnsons on the African continent have again proved their power, stamina and durability in penetrating the trackless wilds is Indicated by this cable- The Johnsens are making their fourth expedition into darkest Africa to continue the work of photograph- ing wild beasts in their native haunts. Mäch of the territory penetrated has never before been visited by whites.
