On the sidence of Mr. O. Ramasamy Nadar, Teluk Kurau, on April 14, when a reception to H.E. the Governor, Sir Cecil Clementi, E.C.M.Q., was held by the Indian community, under the auspices, of the Indian Association.
A special bower of flowers was erected for His Excellency and Lady Clementi and other prominent guests, and tea and refreshments were served on the spacious lawn. The Police Band was in attendance. Dr. E. Raghunathan, president of the Singapore Indian Association, then read the following address:
The Indian Association, Sing pore, beg to accord, on behalf of the Indians in this Settlement, a hearty welcome to Your Excellency and Lady Clementi.
"Grand other hand, and with National" eye on our Government, the Association must continue the frequent and suitable application of ginger: these are the deduc tions I have drawn from my his- tory of office. Bearing all this in mind. I want you to feel that the debates on very important sub jects in the Association, and even more in the Committee, the de putations to Downing Street, our Association banquets and social functions, the informative speeches, the meeting again of friends long separated by service abroad and by the exigencies of business, make for me a series of recollec tions which will give pleasure. to. the end of my life...

Sir Ceci's Reply:
"It has been a great pleasure to me this afternoon to receive so friendly a welcome from the Indian Association of Singapore, and I thank you all very sincerely for your hospitable entertainment," His Ex- cellency said in his reply. It is most encouraging to see the manner, in which the Indian community, here resident, co-operates, with the Government in all matters tending to advance the welfare of Malaya and I hope that the happy relation. ship now existing between all races which inhabit this country as well. as between the whole people of the Colony and the Government of the Straits Settlements may long con- tinue and grow stronger with every passing year. Great assistance has already been given by Indians in the development of Malaya, and the prosperity which they have help ed to bring to the Peninsula has made them also prosperous.".
