EASTERN F.C. v. CHINESE

ATHLETIC "B"

In the replay for the Junior Shield Challenge Shield on the Railwayground," the Chinese Athletic "B" defeated Eastern F.C. by two goals to one. All the goals were scored in the fisrt balf. The Eastern took the lead early in the game through Sabban, who beat Lui Kain Wing with a fast cross shot.

A free kick to the Athletic just outside the penalty area was clear ed and for a time Eastern held the upper hand.

The Athletic rallied and Ip Kau Ko went

to beat Silva. and make the score one-all. Edstern were back again, fighting hard to regala the bead. Before the interval, the Athletic took the lead from a free. kick twenty yards out Shek Pa.

second half commenced found the A dash by the Athletic when the S.L.I. defence unprepared and Hayward gave away Dentnead cleared the flag kick but the Athletic returned and Lei Wai Koon, trapping the ball from a pass by Sueu, seat in a drive that Hall reached but failed to turn out. With this success the Chinese apectators let off strings of cracker while the Valley re-echoded" with cheering. The Athletic were soon back again and Hall did well to stop a drive from Suen. A run by Tso on the right was wasted, the ball going over the line. A shot by Butcher was cleared by Lam, and Suen trapped the ball from a centre by Too and, with a full force drive, sent the ball into the net. Almost from the centre kick the ball was again in the net. A fine move by the whole Athletic line found the defence mixed up and Lai Wai Koon put the ball, in the net.

SOUTH CHINA “B” wi UNIVERSITY F.C..

On the Athletic ground at Happy Valley, the University beat South China "B" by tour goals to two. Cheung opened the score for the University. Ling added to the score, Ab Lee Hing scored for South China and from a penalty kick Lin Eong Kun levelled the scores. The University again took the lead through Leo.

The students put on pressure when play resumed and Ling scor- ed. South Chios hit back but the University defence held out.

On the Railway ground, Kow- loon, defeated St. Joseph's by three clear goals. St. Joseph's fielded eight men only when the game started and were soon defending. Cotton opened the score and Bick- ford and Moore scored before the interval,

A. Caroline Hill, South China "A" failed against the R.A.' and a division of points was the result. The first half favoured the home team, but in the second. the R.A. had chances to score but failed. Iesult, no score.

"The second half was very evenly contested, each goal having narrow escapes. Eastern were unlucky in South China: Pau Ka Fing; Li not forcing a draw, for they kept Ting Sang and Lau Mau; Leung the Athletic defence busy. ATHELETIC.

Before 'record crowd at Sookun poo, Chinese Athletic won the League Championship when they defeated the Somerset L.I. by four goals to one. This was the Athle lic's last game in the League this season and was a fitting finale to n successful season.

The Club Oppened in fine style but were held by the home. backs. South China then got into their stride and forced a Lau Kau sending the flag kick be- hind. Following a bout of midfield play, the Club got away and Reid went in to beat Pau Ka Ping and give hig side the lead.

South China then put on pres- sure and were rewarded with a penalty but Fau Ka Cheung failed to conver, from the spot kick. Keeping up the pressure, South China levelled up through Pau Ka Chuen, who went in and beat Rod ger. Before the interval arrived Tam Kong Tak beat Rodger with a fast eros abot.

Saturday proved to be a bad day for all the teams in the English League closely, following the leaders, for they either lost the points or drew, while the leaders themselves took the points in their respective Divisions.

Shefeld Wednesday, following their mid-week defeat, managed to get the points by scoring the only goal of their meeting with Middlesbrough. Derby County had to be satisfied with one point, and Manchester City were defeated. The three teams retain the 'saine order as the previous week. The highest score of the day was gained by, the Arsenal, who had a tally of 8-1 against Sheffield Vaited..

Blackpool went above Chelsea and are now on level terms with the Second Division leaders, the difference being.in goal average. Brentford lost the points in the Southern Section, and Port Vale grew in the Northern Section. These reverses strengthened the position of the leaders in their respective sections.

The final of the Scottish Cup ended in a goulless draw between the Rangers and Partick Thistle.

As regards the losers, Turner played a great game, and he was the outstanding player of the match, although he was apt to kick too much. Scott was waited in the wing; he would have done much better in the centre or at full back, where hiz tackling is deadly.
