The company has planted 118,000 acres of forest in New Zealand, consisting of Pine Insignis, Pine Ponderosa, Douglas fir, redwood, Pine Laticia and poplar. It is clear from this that the more inaccessible Canadian timber reserves, are being tapped and, as a review of the general timler position in Canada shows, the timber is being cut six times faster than the annual incre- ment. There is ample support for the statements being frequently made by world timber authorities that a serious shortage of soft woods must occur within the next 20 years or so. The New Zealand Government is doing all it can to encourage the extension of forest areas to cope with the growing demand.

Forests, Ltd., and is prepar- ed to sell bonds to investors as is Iring done in England; South Africa and the F.M.S In New Zealand approximately one person in every 31 holds a bond, and in Australia the Company has sold an average of one bond for every 86 of the population. The publication of the statistics on Monday showed a very heavy if crease in the Visible Supply, but the market was not very much affected. On Tuesday, there was un casier tendency although values were steady at the decline, but on Wednesday, on liquidations and influential selling, prices fell away rather quickly, dropping to £185 three months but recovering in the. afternoon, on reports that America had been rather free buyers, to 2168 three months. There was a further serious depreciation in prices 'ges. terday and to-day, Valdes giving way to £150 three months, making cash equal to £150.15, which is the lowest level Tin has touched since 1822.
