"The bystem of Travellers Cheques was originated, in 1991 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form of travel currency which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and at the same time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the cheques under the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS CHEQUES' the word Travellers' being spelled with ons."
