CAPTURE AND DESTRUCTION
OF PIRATES.
An award for the capture and destruction of pirates by H.3. Sm. L.4 on October 20-91, 1927, is now. ready for distribution in the de partment of the Accountant General, of the Navy.
No solution to the brutal crime has yet been found but the police are making rigorous inquiries.

DISPUTE IN SENATE OVER RESIGNATION OF NAVAL
AVIATOR.

[UNITED PRE339.] Washington, March 13-Senator Millard E Tydings, of Maryland, introduced a resolution to-day call ing for an investigation as to why the United States is lagging in naval aviation, and also, for an in- quiry into the reason for the sudden resignation of Lt. Alford Williams, Schneider Cup pilot, who left the Navy when ordered to soa for three years recently.
Pointing out that Lieut. Williamas was a crack speed pilot "Senator Tydings declared that he was generally acknowledged to be pre- eminent as a naval pilot in this country.
At the time, he was ordered to sea, Lieut. Williams was working upon a type of plane in which the. Navy is deficient, according to Senator Tydinga.
The Senator niso demanded an inquiry into conditions surrounding the type of United States Navy speed aeroplanes, and their com- parability with the fast pursuit and bombing aeroplanes of other nations.
