The share-market has been full of life during the past week, and the volume of business negotiated has been on a fairly large scale.

THE HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, TUESDAY, MARCH

EWOS changed hands early inj the week at Tis. 15.60 to Tls. 18.05, but as soon as the news from the North looked more hopeful the shares improved and prices up to Tla. 15.85 were paid. They closed with buyers offering Ts. 15.75 for

shares.

UNDERWRITERS - This atosk

the week,

Rates on the whole have been

fairly well maintained, and in a few cases showed a distinct im provement, which goes to show that there is plenty of loose money available for investment in the Colony. I expect the rates on gilt edged securities to appreciate con siderably in the near future, as with the slump in silver and the absence of export trade, more and more money will be kept back for purely local enterprises. Already the property-market is attracting the larger investors, and who knows but that the attention of landed proprietors " may not soon be diverted to the potentialitics of the share-market?

The Shanghai market continues to interest the local public, and during the week quotations on Ewos and other Shanghai stocks were closely followed. Opinion seems divided however, as to the possibility of another boon" in Ewos very soon.

HONG KONG BANKS After the dividend was paid these shares improved again, and although sales were negotiated at $1,343 to $1,350 they closed with buyers offering 81,370 and sellers asking $1,375.

*

UNIONS This stock took a big jump. Early in the week they were fetching $385, but on Satur day shares changed hands at as high as $400 -

STEAMBOATS-In spite of the uncertainty of the future and the, split" at the recent annual meet- ing, there appear to be many buyers in the market, and shares are wanted at $24.50 ex dividend. -

WHARVES-This stock continues to be firm. Small parcels changed hands at 2159 and 8162.50, and business closed with buyers in the market at the latter rate.

RAUBS On the strength of an- other dividend this stock has im proved, and I understand there are huyers at $16.50, without any shares. coming out. This stock has been steadily climbing since August last, and holders perhaps feel that they will go higher-aˆperfectly logical conclusion!

HOTELS-A considerable busi ness was done in this stock at various rates ranging from $12,50 to 13.10. The shares had a slight setback during the middle of the week, but at the close recovered, buyers offering $13 for shares ön Saturday.

HONG KONG LANDS-Buyers are offering 804 without attracting sellers, although during the week it was reported that several hundred shares had changed hands at that. figure.

HONG KONG TRAMS showed a decided improvement during the period under review. Large par- cels were reported to have changed hands at 819.50 and 20.50. The demand eased off sightly just be- fore the end of the week," with bayers offering 820.10 and sellers asking 10 cents mare,

-STAR TERRIES changed hands, at $60 and $66.30, and there are further buyers at the former figure.

CHINA LIGHTS-Small parcels of old shares changed hands at

219.30 to $19.40, ; and, shares are still wanted around these figures. New shares are wanted at 818.

ELECTRICS have eased of slightly. Shores "changed hands at 260.40 and 800.50, but buyers on Saturday would not pay more than

·839.23," while sellers are holding out for $60.00.

|

AMUSEMENTS--Buyers are io the market at 0.50, but nobody appears to be anxious to part with their holdings at this figure.
