The fortnightly report of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce contains the following references to the textile trade:-

There has been one enquiry for Cotton Fancies but no new business appears to have been settled. A start has been made in clearances of Spring cargo and local prices are reported to be favourable to the are dealers. Manchester prices somewhat easier but orders difficult to fix at, the present low rate of exchange."

Washington, Feb. 14-A favour. able trade balance of G$105,000,000 was recorded for the United States for the mouth of January, accord ing to a statement by the Depart ment of Commerce to-day.

This amount WDS. however, $9,616,000 below the level of Decem ber, it was pointed out.

A significant development was the decline of the outflow of gold from more than $72,000,000, in De- cember to 89,949,000 in January, the statement went on.

At the same time, imports of gold increased $3,980,000.
