Then again the Club-Indians match has yet to come off, and though I do not expect the former will have any difficulty in obtaining full points when they du meet, there is always the glorious uncertainty of the game. NOTABLE PERFORMANCES AT HAPPY VALLEY. [BY "BROADCASTER.”).

The breaking of two records "in one day is something to which, the racing public in Hong Kong is not yet quite accustomed. At the annu- ni meeting in 1923, during the whole of the four days, only ona record was lowered and that was when Elliot Bay won the Champions, the time being 2 minutes, 324 seconds. Subsequently, at an extra meeting, Boxing Eve broke the eaven fur longs record by doing the distance in I minute, 46.4 seconds. Last. year at the annual meeting Coos Bay broke the record for the "T miles post, once round and in" and again in the subsequent extra meet- ing, Boxing Eve added further to his laurels by lowering the seven furlongs record. Last Saturday, in consecutiva races, two records went by the Board, and it looks as if further records will be broken before the annual meeting is over.

The defeat of Sitting Bull on Saturday by the record-breaking President Hall was not a very surprising performance President Hall, after winning the Derby last year, lost to Bitting Bull in the Champions, but the latter animal was in fine trim in those days. On Saturday Sitting Bull did his best, and responded, gamely when asked, but he allowed President Hall- who has improved greatly-to gain too much on him in the earlier part of the race, although Sitting Bull finished in about 29 seconds in the last quarter of a mile, President Hall was equally good, and the ear- ly lead tod on Mrs. Danbar's anim- al. By the way, this is Sitting Bull's first defeat in Hong Kong.

*

As a matter of interest, I give below the time, quarter by quarter, of the 1 miles in The Foochew Cup. Those who saw the race will re- member the fast pace set through- out by Boxing Eve, who led into the straight-that is to say, over the first mile and a quarter. The times were 31 seconds; 1 minute, 1 second; 1 minute, 33.4 seconds; 2 minutes, 5 seconds; 2 minutes, 37.1 seconds; 3 minutes, 07.1 seconds. The quarters therefore work out in seconds at 31, 30, 32.4, 31.1, and 30 seconds. As President Hall was many lengths behind the leading pony on entering the straight, it scems that his last quarter must have been under 29 seconds, in spite. of the fast pace during the earlier part of the race. No wonder the record was broken! President Hall may be a danger to Apollo when the Champions come to be run.

#

The 'record for the mile and half had been held by many years by Invincible King, who won the Der- by in 1991. In 1925 Local Option, in winning the Derby, equalled this time, but President Hall has now taken 1.1 second of these perfor- mances and it will be many years before this record is likely to be shaken. Mr. Ho Kom Tong is tho first Chinese owner to

and al- though Mr. Chan Tin Sion also goes on this list by dint of Apollo's fine performance, actually Mr. Ho Kom Long was first, as President Hall's race came off half an hour before Apollo's.
