AMBITIOUS BUILDING

SCHEMES.

The annual general meeting of $1,360 the European. Young Men's Chri- stian Association, Kowloon,

held yesterday evening, Sir Henry Pollock, K.C., presiding.

The chairman remarked that the accounts and report- for the year had already been in the hands of the members, and he would, pass over them briefly, Sir Henry read a letter of appreciation received from the petty officers of H.M.S. Berwick, thanking the Y.M.C.A. for their kind help and the privileges extended to the ship's company during their stay on the China Coast.

The chairman also remarked that the "Cheer O" branch in Hong Kong would soon lose the valuable services of Mr. W. L. Pattenden, who was soon going Home for good. Sir Heary added that he hoped that the "call of the East" would draw Mr. Pattenden back to the Colony, for he was badly needed by the Y.M.C.A. They also regretted the departure of Mr. J. II. Hunt, the secretary, and Mrs. Rynt, who were soon to go Home" on furlough, and of Mr. D. Scott, the Hon. Treasurer. He wished them all a happy voyage to the Homeland," and a safe return. Mr. Scotts' vacancy would be filled by Mr. Mills of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank,

The Building Extensions. Sir Henry remarked that the As sociation. had in mind, if the fin- ancial position would allow it, an extension to the present building with two doors which would clude a swimming bath and a Lounge Hall. This extension would cost 8108,000. The Association was

However, it could not be promis ed that the idea would mature, but the Association would say that they distinctly hopefull were scheme would"

Sir Henry said that the work would be well worth doing, as a considerable increase in receipts would result. He had already in- terviewed Mr. McPherson and also the manager of the H.L & 6. Bank, and he was

SPANISH CHILDREN BARRED FROM THE BALL RING.

A Spanish Royal Decree has been plished prohibiting the admis- sion to bull-fights and boxing matches for boys and girls under 14 years of age.
