Beck of Pennsylvania, former Solicitor General of the United States, delivered a speech in the House to-day in the course of which he declared that the Republican Party is destined to follow its Whig pre- decessor into oblivion if it "con- tinues to sell its soul to the fana- | tical 'drys' and thus become the Party of Prohibition,"
Senate leaders have unofficially intimated that they are opposed to all prohibition reform except the Williams Bill which provides for transfer of the administration work from jurisdiction of the Treasury Department to that of the Depart- ment of Justice.
