QUEEN'S ROAD VERANDAHS COLLAPSE. KWANGSI CAMPAIGN THE SILVER SCREEN. OUR WATER SUPPLY.
LORRY CARRIES AWAY SUPPORTING PILLAR.
PROMPT WORK BY POLICE, FIREMEN AND VOLUNTEER HELPERS..
THREE MEN TRAPPED UNDER DEBRIS.
Interested crowds yesterday blocked up Queen's Road Central when the verandahs of two houses collapsed following a motor accident. The premises concerned were 34 and 74A, the ground floors of which housed the Kwong Kui photographers and Messrs. Der A Wing, stationers.
The verandahs were supported by a number of cast iron pillars and it was the carrying away of one of these by a Government motor lorry that led to the collapse of the structure.
Police officers and members of the Firo Brigade were quickly on the scene, the place being within a few minutes of both the Central Police Station and the Central Fire Station. Three people were extracted from "the debris, two of whom are believed to be seriously injured. A British bluejacket, who was passing in a rick- sha at the time had a narrow escape.
HOW THE INCIDENT HAPPENED.
A Daily Press representative who "was on the scene a few minutes after the occurrence found that the Police and firemen were already at j work upon a huge pile of debris, A watchmaker's shop adjoining the verandahs which had collapse had an electric clock outside its en- trance. The connection was prob. ably cut off by the collapse and the time showing on the clock was exactly 24 minutes to 4.

It was a fortunate circumstance that no one appeared to be on the verandah of the houses concerned when the supporting pillar was

[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
CANTON, Feb. 9, Heavy Bighting is expected to take place in the course of the ZELL two or three days in the Southern regions of Kwangtung between the opposing forces now converging there. The large "bulk of the Ironsides has left Kwang si for Kwangtung through the Wu Bok Pei and the Yunghalan-Watlam provincial highways, and ara con-, centrating in the region known as the Kolui Districts. This move- ment WAS executed with such adriotness and rupidity, that large. and rich districts had fallen before the Canton Higher Command real ized what its enemies were up to. General Chea Tani Tong had never dreamed that his adversaries would made such a flanking move, and the result was that the scanty number
of Government troope garrisoning these places were expeditiously driven out of the feld.

Canton is still profoundly hoping, for the coming of Marshal Chiang Kai Shek. It would not admit that the Nanking Chief Executive has cancelled his trip for the South, as reported, in the newspapers; but merely said that he has, owing to some important business requiring his attention at the present time, postponed his trip to a later date not yet announced. Meanwhile Canton is going ahead with its pre- parations for the welcome of the Nanking Marshal. In today's issue of the.
