AUSTRALIAN POLO TEAM FOR
› ENGLAND.
The manager of the Hurlingham Clab has received a cable atating that the Goulburn pulo team of New South Wales will visit England this year and will play throughout the London seuson.
The Goulburn team, which is one of the best in Australia, is usually composed of the four brothers Ashton, and is rated at 25 points handicap. The team, with a fifth man and about
23 ponies, will arrive in England, at the end of next February. Arrange ments will be made for the ponics to be stabled at the Beaufort Hunt Polo, Chub until the end of April, when the team will come to London to play in all the tournaments for which they are eligible.
GOLD CUP FOR AINTREE? I have not seen the suggestion put forward (sayas a London sports writer) but I should like to see two steeplechases on Grand National day. First the Grand National, with the same conditions as in the past, and second & Gold Cup, in which the world's best 'chasers could meet at level weights. There would have to be a big sum in added money for the new race, so that owners with the best "chasers in training should run them in it instead of the Grand National. I do not suppose we should get more than ten or a dozen in the eup, but it would mean that the best chasers of the year would not be knocked over by moderate jumpers, which are started in the Grand National on the chance of bringing off a forlorn hope.
LINDRUM'S RECORD BREAK.
Walter Lindrum, the left-handed Australian billiards wizard, made a world's record break of 1,262 last month in London in his match against Willie Smith. He would in- all probability have continued until the end of the session but for the fact that a hair from the brush used to clean the table blew across the line of the ball and caused it to deviate. Lindrum was in play with an unfinished break when the session began. He began with a run of twenty-eight close cannons, and before long pnased his own record (of 2,003, and then the world record of 2,743, set up by Smith a year ago at Manchester. Lindrum acored 1,038 of his, big break by close can- nons, some of his series being 90, 86, 79, 67, 63, 58, 48, and 31. Be- fore the present revised rules came into force the world's record break was. 6.417 obtained by T. Reece. The match ended at night in a vic- tory for Lindrum by 6,041 points. The scores were: Lindrum, 28,003; Smith, 21,002. Lindrum made a break of 893, and Smith," who car ried an unfinished run of the after- noon to 455, afterwards put together a break of 441.'
