In a few cases, senior teams were strongly challenged by the lesser lights when the third round of the F.A. Cup Competition matches were played on Saturday. Swin- dan, from the Southern Section, were successful of their visit to Manchester United, winning by two goals. York City, from the North- ern Section, held Newcastle United to a draw. Eight out of the 32 matches were drawn, one having to Le abandoned.
