A Little Analysis. With some the influence is easily to be traced. Let us analyse the crowd.

THOSE INTIMATE TOUCHES.

"MARION PRINCE" FROCKS.

I

In Lane, Crawford's Ladies' Salon, I saw this week a small collection of frocks which have as individual a charm as the famous "Lenci" hats and dolls. They are called "Marion Prince" frocks and are created with those delight.

ful intimate touches which give a dress the individuality so very badly needed in these days of mass production and almost uniform lines.

The most destinctive charm of "Marion Prince" dresses is their little touches of embroidery, in coarse, silk er wool, generally in. brightly contrasting shades. There is, for example, an afternoon frock of pale ser green marocaine with collar, and twu circular frills set low on the skirt, of bottle green.

Those tricorners, stabbed mortally with an eighteenth-century buckle, are worn, through rain and shine, by those with the highwayman com- plex, and many a loyal housewife enjoys the Russian Cossack touch of swathed grey velvet. Turbags owe their popularity with shopping ladies to Gloria Swanson, and, it is not only young girls that fall for soft crinoline Straws with large brims burdened by fall-blown roses and trailing ribbons.

Queen Alexandra is responsible for the myriads of those "good style" old ladies with formal toques of parma violets tied high upon tall constructed wigs.

We have, by now, accounted for half of the hats in the seething throng, and we regretfully surmise that the rest of the ladies, when faced with the problem of purchas. ing a new hat, must have taken the path of least resistance and bought the first thing that was offered them by an uninterested salesman-or saleswoman. A little embroidery is orange wool brightens the jumper and a quaint bunch of flowers, in orange, and dull green shades of kasha i posed on the left shoulder. These are a few of the "Marion Prince" frocks. Each one has its own individual charm, and I be lieve that many women will add their congratulations to mine to Lane Crawford's for having mede so delightful a discovery..

The sale at the Felix Hat Shop is still on, and the special bargains this week are to be found, I think, in some very nice three piece woollen jumper suits which run from about $20. I saw one in a pretty tan shade, of which the jumper was lightened with stripes of a silvery silk, and similar models in apple green and an attractive pearl grey. Bois de rose wool..

ONE WOMAN TO ANOTHER.

A great many of us here do not do much cooking ourselves, kitchens are amal and inconvenient, and the hot weather get us into lazy habits. But all the same, many of na get at times an itch to cook and there is something particularly nice about a surprizë dish, one that is unknown to the boy and is 27 familiar homesido made with touch. If you ever have that cook- ing itch go to the Book Shop and Bible Depôt. You will find there

which rua" from authors, cents upwards in price. We get so into the way of a regular menu here and there is nothing so nice and refreshing as some quite new dish, and from these books you will be able to produce dishes which are as simple to make as they are delicious to eat.

Another section of the bookshelves in this shop which deserves special attention is that devoted to books on infant and child welfare. The maternal instinct which was sup posed by our grandmothers to be born in every woman with her child- ren, does not always manifest it- self, and we no longer accept the philosophical attitude The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken nway

"when one of the few pre- cious little ones of the modern family is taken from us. We are humble perhaps, and know that we are ignorant and that it rests with us to learn to do what is right for our children. These books of which I speak are written by people with knowledge, and although few child- ten can be successfully reared ab solutely by the book" they do give a wealth of useful hints which even experienced mothers will be glad to learn.
